14th November 2024 saw the Gold Pack and first AfriStar Awards Ceremony and Banquet held at the 082 Vodacom Boulevard, VodaValley, Midrand, Gauteng in South Africa
The AfriStar Awards are a benchmark for packaging excellence, with winners receiving recognition for their innovative use of design, technology, and marketing in packaging that’s not only functional but also reflective of African ingenuity. This year’s finalists and medal winners—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—demonstrated outstanding achievements in packaging that meets the unique needs of African markets while adhering to international standards.
The 2024 AfriStar Awards and Gold Pack Awards winners showcased the pinnacle of innovation and creativity in African packaging. This prestigious event, managed by the Institute of Packaging SA on behalf of the African Packaging Organisation, highlights the ingenuity and expertise that define Africa's packaging industry.
What Sets a Winning Pack Apart?
Winning entries in the AfriStar and Gold Pack Awards are judged based on the exceptional execution of creative design, marketing, and technological innovation. The judges, a panel of experienced professionals from diverse packaging backgrounds, specifically evaluate:
- Creativity and Innovation: New approaches to solving packaging challenges.
- Functionality and Usability: How well the packaging meets its intended purpose.
- African Input: A key qualification is that the packaging must be converted in Africa, reflecting local expertise and resources.
Finalists from the AfriStar Awards will also be eligible to compete in the globally renowned WPO WorldStar Awards, providing a platform to showcase African innovation on the world stage.
Future Ceremonies and Participation
Looking ahead, live award ceremonies are planned for Kenya, Nigeria, and potentially Ghana in 2025, providing an opportunity for more stakeholders to celebrate African packaging excellence. Additionally, the 2025 AfriStar Awards program is set to launch in March 2025, and we encourage all stakeholders to enter their innovative packaging solutions.
